The Technical-HSE criterion (Técnico-SMS in Portuguese) examines your occupational health and safety management system in alignment with the environmental management system and ISO 14001. It applies to Corporate Registration — Simplified Registration does not undergo HSE assessment.
The certifications that matter
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ISO 14001 | Environmental management |
| ISO 45001 | Occupational health and safety (replaced OHSAS 18001, discontinued in 2021) |
| ISO 9001 or API Q1 | Quality (for goods) |
ISO 45001 is mandatory — but only in specific cases
Certification to ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) was made mandatory for the qualification stage of companies taking part in tenders whose contract scope has a history of serious or fatal accidents. This is not a general requirement for every supplier — it applies to particular types of scope. Anyone claiming ‘everyone now needs ISO 45001’ is wrong.
What Petrobras publishes is not a score but an exemption: suppliers presenting ISO 14001 certification are exempt from the other Environmental Management System requirements, and those presenting ISO 45001 are exempt from the other Occupational Health and Safety Management System requirements. The usual conditions apply — a valid certificate whose scope matches the registered family.
